Jessica Alexander, the writer of this week’s Modern Love essay, and her husband, Andy, grappled with how to tell their twin sons about a tragedy in their father’s past: Andy had lost his first wife and two young sons in the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
One day, 10 years later, Andy decided to tell them. And from there, the couple was able to incorporate his past into their present, learning a lot about love and resilience along the way.
